Siân Sutherland talking at Sky Ocean Ventures
Last week, the impelling and inspiring Siân Sutherland joined us for a 30-minute business reboot.
Sian takes a pro-business approach to plastic pollution, unafraid to convey the naked truth and quite capable of pulling businesses up by their bootstraps. Ultimately Sian is about helping businesses sculp a better, more welcoming future.
Like Siân, REELbrands believe that the successful businesses of the future, are those who have conceptualised forever in a new way.
As Siân says, “our generation is addicted to convenience”. It is true that most business models are built on producing waste; but, life to come is heavily leaning on us to build new responsible business models. “We cannot offshore our guilt forever” she says, simply the businesses that evolve now are those who will be in the strongest position to appreciate their own legacy.
It is easy to get the picture with Siân’s metaphors, as she talks about the juggernaut of corporate risk coming our way and asks, how do businesses reimagine their design process and enable themselves to shift out of the way?
REEL know from experience; some packaging problems do not yet have perfect solutions. However, we also know that taking a pretty shuffle away from said juggernaut, is not going to do much!
Businesses need to hustle, to make a committed leap out of the away, investing in what is essentially a survival trajectory. By advancing with the plastic free solutions available now, while innovators like REELbrands continue to revolutionise packaging materials, improving circular products year on year.
From the initial concept up, the future is about designing waste out of production and recreating better systems. As Siân eloquently says, “we are united by one ocean, one atmosphere, why are we not united in our responsibility to look after them?”.
